Service Learning at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÉúФºÅÂë
Rewarding Experiences & Benefits
Service learning is an opportunity for students to connect classroom theories to practice and to contribute to their communities through participation in projects developed by faculty in collaboration with community partners. This type of structured engagement allows for the development of reciprocal relationships between the faculty and community partners, and further, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÉúФºÅÂë and local communities. It also provides hands-on experiences for students to apply classroom learning in real-world settings, which studies have shown increase comprehension and understanding of skill applicability.
The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÉúФºÅÂë provides an academic environment that cultivates leaders who, upon graduation, are ready to lead and are excited to remain engaged in the communities where they live and work. The Service Learning program at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÉúФºÅÂë was established through a generous grant from the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation. Efforts to expand continue through the ongoing work to identify new community partners and to support all Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÉúФºÅÂë affiliates interested in becoming involved in service learning.
